The History Of Gospel Music

At churches all across the United States, Gospel Choirs have spread Joy and inspiration for Hundreds of years. Each Sunday people are clapping hands and dancing to the sound of Gospel lyrics, but why? What is it about the Gospel Song lyrics that moves people to such levels of ecstasy? Is it the words? Is it the surrounding? And where does it all come from?

Although the the church and worship are over 2000 years old, we can only trace Gospel music to the 18th century. Gospel Song Lyrics are very repetitive. Many believe this comes from the slave times when blacks were not able to read, this allowed them also to take part in the worship. The worship services also played a big role in reinforcing the slavery indoctrination, as the sermons were often taken from St. Paul which talked about: good servants, loving, obeying and trusting ones master. The hymns of the white master became the backdrop for the music of the enslaved Africans which later they used in worship meetings.
The Beginnings

The person who many consider to be the father of Gospel Music, Thomas A. Dorsey (1899-1993) was fittingly the son of a Baptist minister, and played with the most famous blues singers of all time-specifically, Bessie Smith (1894-1937) and Ma Rainey (1886-1939). Ironically his fist love was Blues and Ragtime. After two nevervous breakdowns in 1928, He decided to take a break from the music business and that is where he began to change his direction to religious composing. 1932 Dorsey organized one of the fist Gospel Choirs in Chicago at the Pilgrim Baptist Church. It was here that Dorsey began to write religious music, although he did abandon his style of bright or gaudy lyrics, the rhythmic style of jazz and his love of the blues flavor stayed. But not everyone was overjoyed with the new style of the gospel music, some of the old guard conservatives labeled it the devils music and shunned it. But, he stayed true to his music and lived long enough to write over 800 songs and hear his musics ascend from the first row pews to the choir stand, where it previously had been banned. To insure this, Dorsey founded The National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses in 1932, an organization still in existence today.

A 1994 Score magazine article titled The Father of Gospel Music quoted Dorsey as saying, When I realized how hard some folks were fighting the gospel idea, I was determined to carry the banner.
Carry it he did. I borrowed five dollars and sent out 500 copies of my song, If You See My Savior, to churches throughout the country. It was three years before I got a single order. I felt like going back to the blues.
Many Famous Singers have their roots in Gospel Music

Once Gospel music was defined as religious, but gospel has moved to the mainstream and has its mark on all other types of music and popular culture. The list of singers who got their start in music from singing in the choir is way to long to even begin to write down in this small space but just to get an idea of what legends started out with the gospel song lyrics before moving on to other genres of music are Superstars in pop and soul such as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston or Mary J. Blidge. Also Country stars like Tennessee-Ernie-Williams and Glen Camble and yes even the king himself Elvis Presley started with gospel music.
The Most Famous Gospel Choir

Probably the most famous Gospel choir is the Harlem Gospel Choir It was founded in 1986 and has spent the better part of the last 25 years touring the country raising money for children charities and spreading the love of gospel music to millions of people. Allen Baily was the founder and he got the idea while attending a celebration to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, JR. At the Cotton Club in Harlem. The Choir includes some of the best singers and musians from black churches in Harlem and the Greater New York area. The choirs main goal is to create a better understanding of the African-American culture & the inspirational music called Gospel as it relates to the Black Church. But, certainly the music is for everyone. If you see a concert in your area its always a good recommendation to attend this gospel celebration of singing and dancing!.
Todays Gospel Music

Gospel Music has branched out in so many directions over the years. Now Christian rock is the new age of music and the singers are listed weekly on the bill board gospel charts. There is a GMA (Gospel Music association) it has become a multi million dollar business as well. But no mater how the sound changes over the years, the roots will always be from heart and soul of the black American slaves that started this wonderful sound.

Motown Vocal Recording Techniques

Motown vocal recording techniques (Motown is the greatest black music record companies, we know Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross … … and many other black singers are from here to success. From 60 since, Motown the sound engineer to create a number of innovative and effective recording method .- LOBO Note)

If you dug out Frank Sinatra’s recording to hear that, you will find when the sound engineer used to voices beyond the volume above the band “release” in front of the sound field, sound accompaniment of the sound poor crowded After the position is. For the Motown rhythm that is full of vibrant and the music, this recording method simply can not arouse the audience’s emotions, let alone young people with dance.

Motown recording engineer began to experiment with new techniques: put more reverb in the accompanying music, while the reverb sounds of the historic adjustment to the degree of reverberation is less than accompaniment, this way music is highlighted, but the people gentle voice sang the part of music is often inundated, how do?

Yes, just as we thought it would, compression devices and balanced regulator comes in handy, through compression and high boost, the human voice is really clear and could be heard from beginning to end, and yet it does not sound natural, lack of energy and dynamic changes.

Sound engineer Lawrence Horn came up with a brilliant idea. He voices the same signal into two-way, all the way do not do compression direct access console, and then another road through the compressor into the mixer, so he will have two-way signals. That way the non-compressed signal, Lawrence a little bit to enhance high frequency, and put reverb.

That the way to the compressed signal, not only with very severe compression, high-frequency have a significant upgrade with the equalizer. Then when in the mix, Lawrence to uncompressed signals that play full volume, while the volume of compressed slowly raise it all the way until the sound man sound can add enough clarity and on-site flu.

After such treatment, the effect of the human voice come out great, both natural and bright, will not cover up the sounds of music, you could hear every word sung by singers!

A History of Techno Music

Irrespective what end of the spectrum of techno music, whether you love it or hate it, chances are you don’t know a thing about its history and even less about what has made it one of the most popular forms of electronic music today.

Whilst techno is without doubt most popular in Europe today, techno music in fact originated from a Detroit Michigan during the 1980’s. Although Detroit is far more famous for exporting cars rather than music, the vast array of techno music genres we listen to today are variants on the original style of “Detroit Techno.” (Ironically Eminem, one of the 2000’s biggest names in rap music who openly hates techno music also comes from the same city)
The pioneers of techno music are without question the Belleville 3, given that label by adoring fans because they all attended Belleville High School, who’s first 3 albums popularised the fledgling genre of music.

However the main reason for the growth in techno music during this period was the fact that synthesizers and sequencers required to produce techno music became increasingly affordable. As a result, experimentation with techno music became increasingly popular within Detroit, in particular by those not wishing to follow the mainstream music of the time.
It wasn’t long before the techno music genre started to make inroads into Europe, with Germany and England becoming early adopters of this new style. When the Berlin wall fell in 1989, techno music exploded in German bars, nightclubs and underground venues, the most famous of which was UFO, hosted by DJ Westbaume and DJ Maute. This underground venue would be the first steps to founding the most epic festival of techno music being The Love Parade.

With the growth in techno music in bars and nightclubs, various genres started to make a name for themselves and create their own following. He various genres of Trance music (hard trance, progressive trance, acid trance, uplifting trance) all have their origins in Detroit techno. Mainstream music also became heavily influence by techno, in particular with “techno remixes” of pop, hip hop, RnB and rap music.

Today techno music is without question the most popular genre of electronic music, so much so that it is often mistaken by newbie’s as the name for electronic music itself with DJs and groups such as the Aphex Twins, Basshunter, Daft Punk and DJ Rush pushing techno music into the mainstream.

What is computational music?

What is computational music?

I’m sure, those who love music will not normally love mathematics equally and a mathematician might

love music to only level of entertainment.

From the day I come to this world I have wondered “How the people write such beautiful and

meaningful lyrics and the most amazing what makes them compose refreshing tunes?”

To my understanding, music is series of some patterns to please human listening abilities; therefore one

can write some mathematical equations to really understand its dimensions. In fact, I’m talking about

computational music.

So now, if I talk about computational music: there must be theory of computation based on Indian,

Western, Eastern music. Let me talk here about the Indian Music computational theory or the so called

Computer generated Indian Music.

Any software which might generate Indian music must be capable of encoding generic rules of Indian

classical music and it must be able to generate appropriate alaaps, taans and swara-vistar based on it.

Other features it must include should be as follows to make it truly successful based on Indian Music

computational Theory.

If input is provided as Aroha (ascending order of notes) and Avaroha (descending order of notes) along

with Vadi (a dominant) and Samvadi (a sub-dominant) notes of the Raga to the software and it must

generates a Bandish (a complete set of musical notes having meaning and base in Indian Music) at the

click. It should also generate a text file giving the details of the composition so that can document the

textual description of the rendering for future reference and analysis. Such tools will be really learning

tool to learn music and understand these rules with the help of a simple text file generated based on

Computation.

A History of the Development of Synthesizers

Synthesizers are instruments that help people create and then play various sounds. These tools generally require external sound boxes, but not all the models are the same. They come with many different features, functions and capabilities. There are three main categories these musical tools fall into: analog, software and digital. With an analog synthesizer the sound waves are modeled in continuous voltages at various proportions, while a digital one will use separate information units. And lastly, a software synthesizer uses specialized software for mixing sounds.

Nevertheless, these three types can be assimilated, creating a hybrid synthesizer, with different synthesis methods and techniques, such as subtractive, physical modeling, granular, phase distortion, sample based, additive, frequency modulation and sub-harmonic synthesis.

The first electronic synthesizer was invented in 1876 by Elisha Gray. After this, many other experiments started to take place, and so different types of syntheiszers have been invented.  For instance, the Microtonal Electronic keyboard was invented in 1937 by Ivor Darreg, while the ANS model was developed by a scientist named Evgeny Murzin. Presently, this last model is still preserved at Moscow’s Lomonosov University.

After the year 1960, the development of such gadgets had significantly increased in intensity. However, they were so large in size that they could only be kept inside professional studios. And yet the models nowadays are all digital, and since they are way more advanced than the previous models, a whole song can now be arranged on a synthesizer, with many different acoustic effects.

You may also have the option to choose the sound effect to be applied on the track, such as people talking, moving trains, or the sound of applause.

Modern synthesizers allow you to create and record new sound effects, which is one of the reasons why they are so popular in the music industry. Synthesized music is growing day by day, and even films are now put together with songs created using this technology. The first song that was fully synthesized was “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” in a James Bond movie in the year 1969.

Synthesizers nowadays provide you with even more features, such as recording and playing what you have just played instantly. This can be simply done by recording sounds on CDs, which are now basic features with any modern synthesizer. When it comes to sound balancing, these musical tools offer a wide range of options, enabling you to balance sound without any professional help. So if you are seriously considering creating your own sounds, this is the right choice to take your hobby to the next level.

Music Composition – How to Produce Music

I was thinking back just the other day to when I did not know too much about mixing techniques and I also thought that there must be many other people out there in the same position not knowing how to produce music. So I have decided to come up with a list of a few points that all beginners to music production should consider.

Take some time to find bands/artists that have started from basics, not necessary in the genre you are writing in – I would advise anyone to do this and in doing so, create your own personal music production school. If you listen to a lot of bands/artists today there is so much going on in tracks it can be quite hard to focus. If you go and find so bands/artists that are in a different genre you will instantly hear the difference and hear/see that genres rely on specific traits, which is how their genre gets defined. This could very well be the ticket to your own university of music, there is a lot to be learnt and you can learn it by broadening your horizons. Make sure you listen to some older artists too as the song writing and mixing is different 10, 20, 30 and so on years ago. There is a lot to be learned.

Spend time really listening to tracks, isolating specific instruments and focus on them and follow them through a track – Doing this can really help you have an understanding of rhythm and it can also give you great ideas for writing/mixing in a different ways. You will pick up some excellent music mixing tips and music production tips; it will also educate you on what elements can make up a good song. Many times bad songs can be good songs. Normally it is bad lyrics over a great piece of music.

Do not use bad quality recordings – When you are writing or mixing a track you really have to watch the quality. You need the quality to be as good as you can get it and it all needs to be the same quality too. When I say quality, I do not many anything other than how it sounds without any kind of effect added. There is no way and never has been or ever will be a way to fix the quality of audio in the mix, therefore if you try this, you will only be wasting your time and heading for headache city.

There are many other music mixing tips to consider if you are interested in helping yourself understand how to produce music. I believe that if anyone ever wants to improve their music mixing techniques they should take a look at THIS website. It could be the case that you are stuck and do not know what to do next or it could be you are wanting to learn more skills and ‘tricks of the trade’, either way you should take a look.

New York-Based Massage Therapist Karina Yanku Announces Increased Bookings After Being Featured in Edya Kalevs MELT, Yoga and Wellness Newsletter

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 18, 2013

Serendipity is a beautiful thing; especially when one steps back and allows the Universe to work its magic. Take, for example, a chance meeting back in 2008 at a wellness seminar at Matthew Corozine Studio Theatre in Times Square. Karina Yanku, a massage therapist and Edya Kalev, a yoga instructor, have stayed in touch; sharing ideas, inviting each other to networking events, and supporting each others endeavors. Recently, Karina Yanku was featured in the MELT, Yoga and Wellness newsletter, and is amazed at how her client base has doubled since this singular article was published just two months ago. Ms.Kalev was so touched by Yankus story of how she overcame a childhood brain injury and took inspiration from her recovery to create OANAMassage to help with coordination, balance and memory.

As the first-born of three girls, Yankus mother was in labor with her for 18 long hours. When she was born everything appeared normal, but as she was developing, her parents noticed that she was having difficulty with locomotion, eye-hand coordination and severe behavioral issues. Her parents went on a painstaking mission to find a doctor who could help figure out what was going on, and it was discovered that she suffered a brain injury – either in utero or because of a long, traumatic birth.

Although Ms.Yankus parents were told by countless doctors that she’d never develop the coordination to ride a bicycle and would remain remedial for the rest of her life, as fate would have it, their best friends had also a son with a brain injury. It was through them that they learned about the Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential, a cutting-edge, progressive facility that treats brain-injured patients through a unique process called “Patterning”. This Patterning is designed to train the uninjured part of the brain to overcompensate for the part that is injured, thereby “rewiring” a patient’s neurological connections and improving functions.

Until she received this therapy, the only things that would calm her down were rhythm and music. Her father also had a love for music, as well as her grandparents, who would buy her toy instruments so that she could “jam” with Dad. As the oldest child, she also possessed a strong maternal instinct, and enjoyed helping to care for her two younger sisters. As a kid growing up in the 60s, Yanku had two distinct career ambitions: to be a nurse so she could take care of people, or to be one of the Beatles so she could make music.

Fast-forward past an unhealthy detour into the corporate world, she came to an awakening of sorts during a spiritual retreat in Upstate New York in 1996. Through group meditation and chanting, she became reacquainted with her passion for healing. It was at that point that she enrolled in massage school, and she hasn’t looked back since. Becoming a massage therapist has been the most rewarding decision shes ever made.

Wanting to combine her musical talents into her massage practice, four years ago Yanku embarked on a creative mission to develop OanaMassage, the first-of-its kind rhythmic, choreographed massage with it’s own musical score that matches every single massage stroke. The entire session is performed at 60 beats per minute, which, research has proven, assists with right/left brain synchronization, and also mimics the collective rhythm of the Earths Core, otherwise known as Schumanns Resonance.

So, what happens during an OanaMassage? Essentially, a persons right (creative) brain is enjoying the massage and the music, while the left (logical) brain is recognizing the corresponding patterns of the music and the massage in sync with each other. When a person receives OanaMassage frequently, he/she may start to anticipate the musical rhythm and the sequence of massage strokes, thereby enhancing healing on a much deeper level.

Karina Yanku, LMT is a New York-based massage therapist and musician who specializes in touch, rhythm and sound for the body, mind and soul. For more information, email info(at)karinyanku(dot)com or visit http://www.karinayanku.com.
