Artist Al-Fatir recently released his latest project, Robots and Skylines. Robots and Skylines features Al-Fatir on all-original tracks with production from Jazz, Chance McCullough, Jaynez, and K.O. Several tracks also feature K.O as an artist.

Danbury, CT artist Al-Fatir was no stranger to adversity and turmoil growing up, his father being a recovering drug addict struggling to get on the right path. Living everywhere from family members homes to motels, his mother fought hard to keep the family intact while his father sought help to get clean and fight his addiction. Naturally, music played a major part in Al-Fatir’s life. Both my parents were really big into music. As a little kid I was coming up on Sade, Big Daddy Kane, Whitneys Houston, Mariah Carey, etc. R&B was really my first love, Al-Fatir says. Even to date, Al-Fatir feels as if he draws his biggest inspiration from R&B music. Hip hop is where the heart is you know, without it only God knows where Id be, but when Im looking for that inspiration, nothing does it like R&B. Al-Fatirs other projects include mixtapes The Tape and Back 2 The Hustle, along with a number of freestyle tracks available online at http://www.reverbnation.com/alfatir

Robots and Skylines is available for free streaming and download at http://coast2coastmixtapes.com/mixtapes/mixtapedetail.aspx/al-fatir-robots-and-skylines

What Trance Genre Do You Fancy? 5 Sub Genres To Consider

Trance is an incredibly complex genre of electronic dance music, with several separate sub genres that are both connected and distinct from each other. Let’s take a look around at the many different types of trance here. Just be aware that there is much more involved that we can discuss at a later time.

Progressive Trance

This genre is typically described as a more laid back type of trance with a wide variety of sound, often resulting in no memorable melodic line. Instead there is an emphasis on the gentle evolving sounds layered together to create a strong musical sense of the atmosphere. It is a deeper sound that involves more of a tribal techno sound with breaks.

Melodic/Uplifting Trance

Call this sub genre what you’d like – melodic trance, uplifting trance, Euro trance, commercial trance – this music will just plain old make you feel good. It’s what most people start out listening to when they first get into trance. This type of trance often begins with a percussion and bass lead in followed by a sub and primary melody. Female vocals are often integrated into the music, which may be the reason it has more of a commercial feel than other categories of trance.

Goa or Psychedelic Trance

These are actually two separate sub genres of trance, but because of their close connection with the hippie culture, they can often be interpreted as either or.

The main difference between these types of trance is that Goa infuses more of a cultural and Middle Eastern feel to it while psy trance (as it is often abbreviated) has more of a nostalgic and energetic sound.

Dark and Deep Trance

People don’t normally associate darkness with trance, as it is often an uplifting genre. However, dark and deep trance is a bit sadder with a more melancholy feel to it. Dark trance is laced with heavier, darker pads and strings than traditional trance music (if there is such a thing). You will hear a more melodic, sublime sound that is less busy with deep trance.

Acid Trance

Acid trance is considered an archaic form of trance and is also known as ‘hard trance.’ It was pioneered in London through underground parties, peaking in the 90s and spreading around the world. Acid trance music has a trademark “acid” sound, which is produced by the Roland TB-303 playing a sequenced melody while altering the instrument’s filter cutoff frequency, resonance, envelope modulation, and accent controls.

Relaxation Through Meditation Music

“If music be the food of love, play on.” wrote the great Bard more than seven centuries earlier, and the statement is as true today as it was then. Music has always been a very important part of human civilisation and its importance in the development of human society cannot be undermined. Just like its influence in other facets of human development, music is also an important part of relaxation. Soothing music calms the nerves and draws the tension and stress of day to day life from our mind. Music does to the mind what a massage does to the body.

For a person like me music and relaxation are inseparable (as I am a lazy music lover). But seriously speaking, music has always been a vehicle of relaxation and tranquility. The eastern civilizations understood this much before the west woke up to the fact. Even today, the music that is most commonly used as meditation music or soothing music for the mind and the body is eastern music. Chants from the ancient Indian scriptures are particularly popular as they evoke an image of the carefree east along with providing us with the relaxation we desire.

Music has always played a major role in the relaxation of the human mind and body. It also is a great accompaniment to meditation and yoga. The correct type of soothing music will make sure that you have a complete meditation experience and will also guide you through the steps of meditation. Inner Splendor Media, a New York based company specialises in providing music albums for meditation, yoga and also deep sleep.

How Does Drug Addiction Develop?

While many people can remain sober throughout their entire lives, others find themselves in situations where they turn to drugs and grow a habit of abuse.  What makes people take the path of drug abuse rather than sobriety?  There can be a number of different factors that lead to someone initially getting involved in drug use and later developing an addiction.  For a lot of people there are genetic factors in the tendency to be addicted to things.  It is common for issues like alcoholism or other drug abuse to be hereditary.  Other factors can be a pre-existing mental illness like depression, bipolar disorder or other types of mental health problems.  The tendency of addiction to develop as a result of these problems is so common that dual diagnosis treatment has become a necessary part of many rehab centers.

Aside from genetic factors or the existence of a mental illness, a person’s culture or exposure to drugs can affect their interest in taking them.  If someone lives in an environment where drug use is the norm then they are much more likely to become addicted to different kinds of drugs.  Whatever the cause may be the development of the addiction can be exacerbated by factors of mental illness and the only method of recovery will most likely be dual diagnosis treatment.  If there is no mental health problem present then a general rehab facility will be sufficient to help them recover.  All kinds of drugs vary in their symptoms of addiction but the solutions to them are effective for everyone.  No matter how severe the addiction anyone can get sober if they find the right kind of treatment center.

The growing habit of drug abuse that a person has can accelerate quite quickly no matter what the circumstances of their introduction to the drug.  If certain factors come into play they may struggle with an addiction for a very long time.  Only with professional treatment can they hope to improve their condition and achieve sobriety.

How Psychiatry Is Misunderstood

Psychiatry is often misunderstood by people who don’t understand the topic and nature of psychiatric treatment or hold on too tightly to their culture and its beliefs. This is the reason why people have so many misconceptions about psychiatry. Research has been conducted on most of these misconceptions and they have been proven to be wrong. Science does not provide any evidence to support these ‘myths’ that people strongly believe in. instead science and researchers blame these myths to be the cause of why some psychiatric patients are denied treatment.

We will be highlighting some misconceptions that people live by when it comes to psychiatry. Some of the misconceptions are as follows:

1. People believe that physical illness and psychiatric illness is different; psychiatric illness is a special kind of illness. However the World Health Organization says that health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. By studying this meaning, we can understand the psychiatric illness is not different from physical illness. Just like physical illness affects the different body parts, psychiatric illness will affect behavior and has to be treated.

2. People believe that all patients who have psychiatric illnesses are violent in nature and are dangerous. This has been proven wrong for a number of occasions when psychiatric patients are not violent.

3. A very odd belief that some people cling on to is that once a psychiatric patient visits the market he/she will never get well. This is extremely untrue because a lot of patients have been found in markets and have been taken in for treatment.

After being managed properly and being given treatment they have improved.

4. Some cultures believe that psychiatric illness is a sin for patients for their wrongdoings. Just like other illnesses are caused by bacteria or germs, stress, hormonal imbalance or genetic problems etc, can be the cause of psychiatric illness. This is not a punishment or a sin. It is simply a change in the body which affects a person’s behavior in a negative manner.

5. Some people believe that psychiatric illness is a prolonged illness that has no cure. People believe that even if the person shows signs of improvement, it is not for long since the illness relapses. Just like any other illness like cancer or cardiac disease, the treatment takes long and there is always a chance of relapses. However it is not a special case when it relates to psychiatric illness because it is an illness like any other and the odds of relapses of the condition are the same as with any other medical condition.

6. People also believe that psychiatric illness can spread from person to person, which is highly untrue. They cannot be transmitted through contact with the person. In fact, these patients very safe to stay close to.

These were some of the major misconceptions when it comes to psychiatry and psychiatric patients. There are many other misconceptions that people need to understand and deem wrong and give patients the treatment they need, without neglecting them.

Addiction and Recovery – Maintaining Your Recovery Motivation – Or You Will Relapse?

People often find their way to recovery in the midst of a crisis. Someone standing at the crossroads of recovery, may have been arrested for DUI, may have been fired, or may have received a scary report from the doctor. He may have heard the bottom line demand from his spouse– “Get help or we are getting a divorce.” Or, the alcoholic/addict may in fact, have a moment of clarity and really be able to see that he does have a problem and that help and abstinence are called for. The alcoholic/addict feels afraid. He feels ashamed.  He feels angry at others or at himself for being in this position in the first place.

Fear, coercion or crisis helps him find his way into recovery. Fear is a fairly good short term motivator, but not so good in the long run. Once the fear subsides and the crisis is over, it is very easy to lose your motivation and momentum. At the point where the cycle of addiction is interrupted by failing to take the next drink, dose, or joint, there is a lot of tension, anxiety, and mindfulness of where you are in the process. Detox or withdrawal may occur, with physical and/or emotional symptoms being very consciously experienced.

When you get to feeling better physically and emotionally after detoxing, it is easy to lose your momentum. Your focus on recovery can dissolve. Some of the problems that once motivated your recovery might be resolved now. Because you have quit drinking or using, your spouse and kids are once again speaking to you and are in the process of forgiving you. You may have even won back some trust. Everything seems to be going well.

Under these circumstances it is quite easy for you to take your eyes off the target and lose your focus on recovery. Erroneously, you may believe that your abstinence is not so fragile now.  Feeling better, you may think you have it “whipped”.

Without actively focusing on your continuing abstinence and recovery, your behavior can begin to drift away from the newly instituted behavioral changes that you have made. You run the risk of returning to old thinking, old feelings, and then ultimately old behavior.  The reason why this would happen is that you are not consciously taking steps to continue on a path of recovery. This path involves many changes in your behavior and in your life style. Without making conscious choices in regard to how each decision affects your new recovery life or your old addiction life, you are unconsciously choosing your old life. Choosing recovery is not like jump starting your damaged car battery where once you get it started, it recharges itself as run it. You have to continuously work a program of recovery. Without doing so, your efforts will be short-lived.

You will quit going to counseling. You will quit going to meetings. You will have stopped calling your recovery support people. Your defenses will go back up and you may take exception to the feedback of significant others who tell you that you are acting like you used to before recovery.

You won’t be able to see that you are on the road to relapse. You won’t be able to understand why they are concerned. You won’t be able to identify the behavioral changes that scare them because you will be back in denial. Being around old drinking/using environments and friends don’t scare you. You can’t understand why it would scare your significant others. After all, you told them that you are not going to relapse. You have learned your lesson. What more do they want?

After awhile, you will begin to think that you have your drinking or using under control now.  When you think of addiction as a thing of the past, that you now have it under control, you will begin to entertain the notion that you can now drink or use without negative consequences. If any of this sounds like your recent experience, you are in big trouble. You are in the relapse process and unless you do something now, you will relapse–and soon.

Finding Inner Peace through Meditation

Meditation is a relaxation technique which has been performed by a lot of people from all over the world. Still, it is gaining more and more popularity due to its many benefits. One of these benefits is the improvement of focus and clarity. With such benefits, a person can finish his daily tasks without undergoing a lot of stress.

Meditation can also help prevent different problems such as cardiovascular disease, autoimmune problems, depression, digestive problems, anxiety disorders, sleep disorders, obesity and more. It also helps people recover faster from illnesses, surgery or trauma.

However, these are not the only reasons as to why this relaxation technique is gaining much of its popularity. Many people learn meditation not only for the welfare of their mind and body, but also for spiritual purposes as well.

Finding inner peace is what many people are concerned of. Although finding inner peace is the hardest thing to do, it is worth all the effort. This is due to the fact that no book or article can give you all the answers to help you achieve inner peace. However, with proper meditation, inner peace can be attained.

Meditating properly means clearing a place, where you plan to meditate, of all the clutters and dirt. Many meditation experts believed that the cleanliness and orderliness of a place can affect your meditation. A clean and organized place can help you think clearly and focus more on this activity.

It is also best to find the right time to meditate. Although you can meditate anywhere and at any time, it is still best to find 2 appropriate times for this activity.

Most experts believe that meditating during early mornings and during evenings before going to sleep or eating dinner, are the more effective times for meditation.

This is mainly due to the fact that most people in your home are still sleeping or are still asleep. Thus, no one will be around to bother you. Another reason for this is that during early morning and during evenings, the environment is usually calm.

But the most important part in finding inner peace through meditation is to be patient. Always bear in mind that finding inner peace doesn’t happen overnight. It will take some time before you can achieve this status.

Learning To Meditate – A Simple Yet Powerful Meditation Exercise

Life these days is very demanding and stressful. If you are like most people, you are working hard to survive and still you feel unhappy, like you don’t have enough time to get everything done, thus your life becomes stressful. Stress makes you tired and causes frustration and unhappiness. It can even affect your health. The solution comes from the spiritual world and is called meditation. A few minutes of meditation every day can drive stress away and boost your self-esteem. It can also give you a feeling of completion and fulfillment.

In this article I will give you a simple yet powerful meditation exercise in a step-by-step manner so as to understand it and apply it. Perform the exercise for 10-15 minutes a day and you will definitely find some inner peace and balance. You will also understand your own mind better. The exercise can be performed by any logical person who seeks the truth. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Stop Distractions.
You will need to be alone in a quiet, private place. It is important to stop all distractions and make your mind clearer and more lucid. To accomplish this sit in a comfortable position (try the classic cross-legged posture, it works wonders for most people). The key is to keep your back straight. Close your eyes for a while and start breathing. Breath naturally through your nostrils. Don’t attempt to control your breath, just try to become aware of the sensation of the breath as you inhale and exhale.

Step 2: Keep the feeling
Concentrate on this breathing sensation as much as you can. Try not to think of anything else. If you are inexperienced this will not be easy at first but the more you do it, the better you become at it! You will encounter dozens of different thoughts that aim to distract you. Don’t be tempted. Stay focused on the sensation of your breath. When you discover that your mind is following thoughts of distraction, immediately return it to the breath. Practice that as much as you can. Finally, the distracting thoughts will subside and you will encounter a feeling of peace and relaxation. Try to keep that feeling for as long as possible.

When you are done, feel refreshed and ready to face the challenges of life. Do this at least 10-15 minutes a day and notice your progress every time. Gradually, your mind will become more lucid and spacious. You will be able to reduce stress and solve your usual every day problems and issues. Other people will feel the change inside you and will start to interact better. This way your relationships will improve. This simple yet powerful meditation exercise can also do miracles in your love life especially if it is performed by both you and your soulmate.

Tips: If you want to add more magic to the meditation process you can use a candle and an incense stick. Carefully light the candle and the incense stick before you start the exercise and extinguish them when you are done. You can look at the flame of the candle while trying to send distractive thoughts away. The incense stick will fill your space with countless spirits and entities.
